Google Home prices slashed as Prime Day approaches

Google might be feeling the heat from Amazon’s impending Prime Day fire . The company is currently cutting prices on all of its Google Home products in a bid to combat Amazon’s upcoming deals extravaganza.

Right now at John Lewis and Argos, you can pick up just about any item from the Google Home range for a fraction of its usual cost. The ever-popular Google Home Mini , for example, is available in chalk, charcoal or coral colours for only £24, down from £49 – representing a massive 50% saving.

If you’re underwhelmed by the size of the Home Mini, then the standard Google Home smart speaker – standing at an impressive 14cm tall – might be more up your street, which is currently on offer for £59, down from £89. Argos reckons this is the cheapest it has ever sold for.

Audiophiles will be pleased to hear that Google has also slashed the price of its beefed-up Home Max speaker, at a saving of £100. The Home Max crams two 4.5in woofers and two tweeters into a 19 x 33cm space, making it the most sonically appealing Google Home speaker to date, and now costs £199.

There are even more savings to be had on Google’s Home Hub devices, which are currently selling for £79, down from £119. For the uninitiated, these smart speakers incorporate a 7in display that functions as a semi-tablet to give you personalised commute information, weather reports and answers to just about every conceivable question.

Google Home products are voice-controlled smart speakers that act as virtual assistants, allowing you to control any compatible device using your voice. If you own a Philips Hue starter kit, for example, you can control your interior lighting by simply barking a command. As it happens, Argos is also offering 20% off the starter kit when you purchase any Google Home device.

We’re not totally sure how long this superb sale on Google’s smart speakers will last, but the Philips Hue deal expires on 27 July, so we suggest you get a move on – before Prime Day steals your attention and your wallet.
